- Olive oil, its benefits are its moisturising and nourishing virtues
- Laurel berry oil is particularly well-known for its purifying and disinfecting properties
How to recognise genuine Aleppo Soap?
Aleppo Soap is a protected brand name. Real traditional Aleppo Soaps can be recognised by these features:
- Provenance: Aleppo soap must be made in Aleppo, Syria.
- Maximum 4 raw ingredients: Olive oil – Laurel berry oil - Water - Natural soda.
- The seal of the soap in Arabic: Aleppo soap must be stamped with a seal, written in Arabic, on which appears the name of the manufacturer as well as the provenance.
- Colour and smell: Aleppo soap should be brown, light or dark (depending on age and drying time), and the heart of the soap should be emerald green. As for the smell, it is very specific. It has a slightly acrid smell, which can confuse more than one, but we get used to it very quickly!
- Flotation: Unlike all other conventional soaps, Aleppo soap floats on water. The oil being lighter than water, this easily explains this. Do the test in your bath, your Aleppo soap must float!
- Its external appearance: Its external appearance must be authentic and not smooth. Cut by hand and dried in open air, it must show the marks of this manual treatment.
