What is an essential oil?
Pure essential oils are made by pressing oil from components of plants, herbs and flowers. What remains is the oil with highly concentrated plant properties. The essence: Hence the name 'essential oil'.
What is the difference between essential oil and ethereal oil?
In essence there is no difference between essential oil and ethereal oil. These are two names for the same thing. What does make a difference is when an oil is called 'aromatic oil' or 'fragrance oil'. Then it usually is a (partly) synthetically produced oil. And that can also smell very pleasant, but has no beneficial plant properties to it. So depending on the purpose, you can choose an ethereal oil or a synthetic aromatic oil.
How do essential oils work?
The working of ethereal oil coincides with the properties of the plant where the oil is extracted from. Throughout the centuries, botanists have studied plants and their characteristics. That knowledge is applied in making medicine and also for the application of essential oils. The working of an oil is related to the essence of the plant from which the oil is extracted. Below we will describe some of the most well-known oils and their properties.
7 ethereal oils highlighted

Rose
Another very popular oil is essential rose oil. This oil is widely used in both the perfume industry and in aromatherapy. There are studies that show that rose oil has a stress-reducing effect. So in addition to enjoying the pleasant fragrance, you can also unwind with rose oil.
Rosemary
Rosemary oil stimulates the blood circulation and warms the skin. This oil is therefore often used in aromatherapy and as a massage oil. When using rosemary as a massage oil, always mix it with a neutral plant-based oil such as sunflower oil or almond oil. Is essential oil the same as massage oil?
A question we are often asked is whether an essential oil is the same as a massage oil. A massage oil can be made with an essential oil. Often a neutral vegetable oil forms the basis - such as jojoba oil, sunflower oil, almond oil or rice oil - and an essential oil is added. This makes the massage oil less expensive and also a pure essential oil can be too powerful to apply undiluted to the skin. So always take a good look at this, before applying an essential oil to the skin.
